Yes, home plans are copyrighted. Federal copyright laws protect intellectual property of architects and home designers. These laws allow for statutory penalties of up to $150,000 per incident, plus legal fees and actual damages for copyright infringements involving plans found in publications.
Construction blueprints may not be duplicated but additional copies may be purchased from the supplier. If changes are necessary, you must purchase a reproducible set or CAD file from your plan supplier. |
