Bank of America is was basically formed with the 1929 merger of Bank of Italy (founded 1904) and Bank of America. More recently Bank of America has expanded rapid through numerous acquisitions such as Seafirst Corporation of Seattle in 1983, Security Pacific National Bank in 1992, Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Co. in 1994, Nationsbank in 1998, MBNA in 2005, FleetBoston Financial in 2008, ABN Amro North America and LaSalle Bank Corporation in 2007 and Countrywide in 2008 to become the national powerhouse it is today. The Corporation’s common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and the Pacific Stock Exchange under the symbol BAC.

The Corporation’s common stock is also listed on the London Stock Exchange, and certain shares are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Bank of America is today the largest issuer of credit, debit and prepaid cards in the world based on total purchase volume, as well as the largest consumer and small business bank in the United States.
