Replaced Franklin Raines, its Chairman and CEO. Raines left in the wake of a SEC directive to make accounting corrections that could knock out $10 billion of Fannie Mae's past profit.

 

Daniel H. Mudd is headquartered in Washington, DC. He is also a member of the Board. Previously, Mr. Mudd served as Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the origination, systems, and administration areas of the company.

 

Prior to joining Fannie Mae in 2000, he was an officer at General Electric, spending most of his career there leading financial services business in the U.S., Asia, and Europe. Mr. Mudd was assigned to Mexico, and subsequently to Asia and tasked to lead the operations through the economic crises in those areas. Prior to GE, Mr. Mudd held positions in management consulting and financial services with a focus on business strategy and mergers and acquisitions.

 

Daniel Mudd graduated with a B.A. in American History from the University of Virginia. He was an officer in the U.S. Marines and was decorated for combat service in Beirut, Lebanon. He left the service after a tour in the Office of the Secretary of Defense to obtain his Masters in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School at Harvard University. In 1989, he was awarded a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship to work with the German government during the reunification of East and West Germany.

 

Mr. Mudd is currently on the boards of Fortress Investment Group LLC, the Center for the Study of the Presidency, Homes for Working Families, Hampton University, University of Virginia Board of Managers, and Sidwell Friends School. In 1980, he was a finalist in the Olympic Rowing Trials.
