How Do I Find a Builder?
Category - Home Ownership Questions - Building Your Home FAQ's

There are many ways to find the best builder in your area. To get started, consider visiting your county’s chamber of commerce and obtain a copy of local builders. You can also visit the local or national association of homebuilders (http://www.nahb.org/) and review their membership. Other ways to find an excellent local builder is to talk to friends and neighbors and obtain referrals or by visiting showcases for new homes and new developments.

You can also drive around the area you intend to move to and identify new construction. Ask for permission to enter the home for a quick visit. Approach the construction supervisor and obtain the builder’s contact information, if you like what you see.

You may also call real estate and closing attorneys in the area you want to move to and find out whether they have a standing business relationship with builders in the area. Explain you are searching for an excellent local builder and ask for contact information.

Once you identify at least three or four builders, call the Better Business Bureau and find out if there have been any complaints against these builders. Identify the rating assigned the builder by the BBB and refrain from selecting a builder with multiple complaints
