Other than referrals from friends or acquaintances, your best approach to selecting an architect is to visit the American Institute of Architects (http://architectfinder.aia.org) or a local association of architects. The local chamber of commerce may also be able to provide you with a list of member architects.
When selecting an architect, ask to see samples of the homes they have designed and for client referrals. Explain the type of home you are interested in, what the fees are, how long it will take to design your home, etc. The architect will also want to visit the land you plan to build on, since this will influence the design. |
