J. Hugh Ryall brings to his classes the benefit of a wide variety of work experiences over his professional life. His expertise and knowledge have come not only in the classroom but even more from “being out in the trenches,” doing the deals and fighting the battles in real life. This firsthand experience gives his teaching a higher degree of relevance and applicability than mere theory. The South Carolina Association of Realtors in 1998 honored him by electing him the “Outstanding Educator of the Year.”

Ryall’s business acumen was developed over the years in positions such as the following:

  • Owner of an import-export company dealing in chemicals and consumer goods
  • Owner of a manufacturing firm supplying the automotive industry in Detroit
  • Owner of a logging company in the north woods of Canada
  • Senior vice president and general manager of a chain of department stores in Michigan
  • President of a mini-conglomerate that owned two furniture manufacturing facilities as well as nationwide distribution and marketing outlets
  • Owner of a real estate development company
  • Owner of a traditional real estate firm
  • Owner of a real estate firm specializing in marketing new construction for national construction firms
  • Co-owner of Earth Available Realty, Inc., the premier full-service real estate agency specializing in buyer representation in the Midlands of South Carolina
  • Co-owner of Hugh Ryall Seminars, presenting Professional Development and designation classes, Mandatory Continuing Education classes and other exceptional education programs to real estate agents, companies and boards in North and South Carolina.

A lifetime member of the Columbia Association of REALTORS Circle of Excellence, Hugh Ryall has spent an increasing amount of time in the last few years training agents. A senior instructor for the REALTORS Education Foundation in South Carolina, he has taught extensively at the state and local levels for the South Carolina Real Estate Commission,  the Greater Columbia Association of REALTORS, and the South Carolina Association of REALTORS. His Sales and Marketing class was consistently one of the top-rated classes of the GRI curriculum in South Carolina.

Out of 27,000 REBAC members nationally at the time, Ryall was among the first twelve ever tapped for membership in the Real Estate Buyers Agent (REBAC) Hall of Fame which honors outstanding leaders in the field of Buyer Agency. Named by Agency Law Quarterly as one of the Top 50 Agency Instructors in the country the past two years, Ryall served as president of the Palmetto Real Estate Educators Association for 1995-96. He has served as the National Marketing Committee Chairman for the Real Estate Educators Association and was the National Education Chairman for the National Association of Exclusive Buyers Agents for 1995-1996. He was one of the featured speakers at the 1995 Real Estate Educators Association National Convention and the 1996 NAEBA National Convention. He has served on the Board of Directors of REEA, as the Region 6 REEA Regional Vice President and as the program chairman of the 1997 REEA National Conference. In 1999, he was one of four instructors in the nation nominated as the National Real Estate Educator of the Year.

With all of this, he continues to work actively as an Exclusive Buyers’ Agent. Ryall was one of the seven experts on Buyers’ Agency from all over the country invited to Chicago by the National Association of Realtors to help establish the knowledge and criteria required to properly work as a Buyers’ Agent. Nationally recognized as both a teacher and a Buyers’ Agent, he knows not only the theories, he knows what truly works in the marketplace and why!
