Weichert, Realtors® is one of the two largest, privately held real estate companies in the country. Founded in 1969 by then twenty-year-old New Jersey licensee, Jim Weichert
Weicherts was for most of its lifespan known as a northeast-based, company-owned real estate firm. Weichert began offering franchises only in 2002, but three years later Entrepreneur Magazine named them as one of the fastest growing franchises (of all types). The company calls itself real estate's only "business format" franchise as the network has rapidly grown and by end of 2007 stood at 350 affiliated offices. Add another 200 company-owned offices and this group operated in 35 states generating revenues in excess of $73 billion in 2006, with some 22,000 sales associates and over 2500 employees.
The Weichert's "Gold Services" division is one of the most effective with regard to offering one-stop home services and provides an average of six additional closing services to its real estate customers; mortgage, title, property insurance and a laundry list of concierge services (household moving, home protection, cable and satellite TV, locksmith services, etc.). Weichert Financial Services ranks among the top 30 lenders in the nation and their company's relocation arm, Weichert Relocation Resources, Inc., services over 25,000 transferees and nearly 500 corporate clients each year.
According to the 2008 Swanepoel Trends Report1 Weichert Realtors® is the best example of a previously independent, regional company that has re-engineered itself to become a major national franchise force.
