A Day of Honor

In recognition of Apprentice Winner Kathleen “Katie” Wyatt’s superior accomplishment, on the eve of Sept. 1, 2005, Sue Schlapp, the vice mayor of Wichita, Kansas, proudly read a proclamation announcing the city’s inaugural “Real Estate Apprentice Day”.

Flanked by Dr. Martin Oliver, the Deputy Executive Director of the Apprentice Foundation, and Career Education Systems Real Estate School owners Mark and Regina Barker, Schlapp called upon Wichita citizens to, “…observe this day by supporting and promoting professionalism in real estate education and in the real estate industry.” Schlapp personally honored the Real Estate Apprentice’s™ Grand Prize Winner, Katie Wyatt, and expressed her gratitude for all Wichita real estate professionals who make a significant contribution to the real estate industry in the local economy.

During the gala event, staged at Career Education Systems (CES) Real Estate School – Wyatt’s alma mater and a RealtyU® Affiliate – a large number of industry professionals joined Mark and Regina Barker for an evening of hearty cuisine, heartwarming praise, the flash of cameras, the giving of awards, and the crowning of the Second Real Estate Apprentice for 2005. Guests in attendance included directors representing the Wichita Local Real Estate Board, premier Wichita real estate brokerage firms, and Katie’s own real estate colleagues, friends, and family. Dave Gosha, of CES, was also honored for outstanding teaching and administration of the school’s facility.

A Worthy Proclamation

Mark Barker opened the ceremony by thanking Schlapp for her continued support of the real estate industry, and for her keen understanding of the value of a professional real estate education. Schlapp humbly accepted Barker’s comments, and then read from a beautiful City of Wichita document embossed with gold lettering, the following words:

“Proclamation of The City of Wichita, Kansas, Founded in 1870. Whereas professional real estate women and men make a significant contribution to the real estate industry and the local economy; and Whereas professional real estate educators are committed to meeting the needs of the real estate professional while promoting real estate practices that serve and promote the needs of the public, and Whereas the Real Estate Apprentice Program and Career Education Systems Real Estate School recognize the importance of professionalism in the real estate industry and Whereas Wichita citizen Kathleen (Katie) Wyatt has been awarded the prestigious Real Estate Apprentice Grant by the National Real Estate Apprentice Foundation, Now therefore, be it resolved that I, Carlos Mayans, Mayor of the City of Wichita, Kansas do hereby proclaim September 1, 2005 as REAL ESTATE APPRENTICE DAY and call upon our citizens to observe this day by supporting and promoting professionalism in real estate education and the real estate industry.”
